**Altar Aflame**
Burned at the altar
though innocent of falter,
His purpose stood much higher.
The Son rose as a bird from the fire,
its wings aflame with loving pyre.
its ashes the remnant of the blaze,
Its purpose perfected by the eyes that gaze
and follow after it in flight towards the heavens.

Inspired by a series of poems I wrote for Steph based on the cross. The initial idea was driven by my friend A.J.'s poem that he did about a phoenix. I love the symbol so much that I wanted to write one of my own. This speaks of our death and new life in Christ. But more importantly the Son of God becoming our pheonix a symbol of death, resurrection, passion (fire), flight.
